A question was raised earlier about how to polish nickel plating. For some reason I can't respond in the thread. There is a product called Purple Polish that is used by Bikers and Truckers and is the reason their chrome gleams so brightly. Even dull aluminium comes up like highly polished chrome. This Ebay listing has a blurb about the product. www.ebay.com/itm/CALIFORNIA-CUSTOM-PURPLE-POLISH-DEOXIDIZER-BOAT-MOTORCYCLE-ALUMINUM-CHROME-/161359812332?hash=item2591cb56ec&item=161359812332&vxp=mtrI have used Purple for many years and it always amazes me how much putrid grime comes away from all types of metal even if the surface looks clean. I have never experienced any clouding or scratching. Obviously if you are going to polish a very valuable and loved instrument and have any concerns trial the product before you jump in. Also it is a liquid so be careful to avoid it running into gaps between surfaces where you can't clean as you will be left with a residue. I hope this is useful.
