Hi Zumanker The MM Lightning is the same one,no.serial number stamped on headstock. It sold, then was re-listed at a higher price, after a sales glitch.
Icarus guitars are set up in a workshop in Gravesend,Kent and sold (I think) just on ebay. Maybe MM knows more about the company/guitars.

Hi Zumanker
if it´s the GAS that got you, i would highly recomnmend the MM-Line of Reso´s. I recently got me an MM 28, and i am fully satisfied. I own several resos, two johnsons ( tri-cone and duolian-style ), an 80´s Dobro duolian model 90 and the before mentioned Michael Messer 28. They all sound great, but the MM 28 is built with LOVE and you can feel it. Especially the neck is great and the whole guitar is right down to the original specs as i suppose the others of the line will be also. I think the MM 28 won´t be the last one for me. Don´t know your location, but if you´re living in the U.K., go for it. You´ll never fail.
Slide on, Gerry

I second that. If you're actually looking to purchase a resonator, rather than just perusing ebay, then the MM Lightning wins every time from the one's you mention. I recently purchased an MM Blues as my first resonator guitar. She sings and she growls and is the new lady in my life. Whether you're playing or just admiring her, owning an MM guitar gives you an inner glow! Orbital.

Does Michael have any connection to Icarus guitars? Somehow I have managed to buy a guitar from them thinking it was a new MM or budget line dont know how..feel slightly unwell at the though of this...

Hi Sliderman, Best check with MM but don't think he has any connection to Icarus. Re your purchase, they offer a 30 day money back if the guitar's in the same condition it came to you in. If you're not happy, you have options! Which of their models did you purchase? Orbital.

With that in mind,be wary of using fingerpicks,I found quite quickly that even some plastic ones can leave scratches. And don't hit the guitar shoulder with the slide as easy to chip paint off...this was more down to my inexperienced technique which is since improving, but if you're thinking of sending it back, best be careful. YMMV, Orbital.

Hello Sliderman,
Orbital is correct that I have no connection whatsoever with Icarus Guitars. Can we see a link to Icarus and maybe to the guitar that you bought?

The description on the Icarus (especially the ebony capped bridge saddle) leads me to suspect it's a rebranded Aeirsi - that's the brand/front for the Chinese factory that produces a lot of these budget resos. Not the same animal as an MM guitar.

Here it is www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331640226895?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Unfortunately it is now outside the 30 day period to return. I dont know how I managed to think it was a MM outlet...The basic guitar is ok but a few things arent right. The volume balance from treble to bass isnt right to me - the 2nd 3rd and 4th strings just sit out too much. The string spacing across the neck looks a bit wrong. The case it came in was not what I would call a hardshell - its more like a firmer gig bag if that makes sense. I can see now that it looks identical to some stock Chinese Aeirisi. This doesnt mean that the guitar is totally bad or the company are doing anything wrong - I'm more embarrassed to get caught out I guess.

Hi Sliderman,
That guitar has no connection to an MM guitar in any way. I think those are made by Aeirsi. And just to clarify, MM guitars are not manufactured by Aeirsi.

Hi Sliderman, These things happen! You could just sell it and get an MM guitar, which it sounds like you thought it was. Or,you could spend out a bit and have it re-set up by a recognised resonator specialist. (Dave King Acoustics) Depends which way you want to go with it. Orbital.

That's what called a "featherlite" case. I like 'em -- much lighter than a standard case, but more protection than a padded soft case. They're fitted to the guitar too, so there's no movement. Of course, if you're gigging a lot, you'd probably want more protection.
I had an Aiersi guitar, it had none of the problems you describe and in fact was a pretty excellent guitar (other than the cheap tuners and the capped bridge). But I bought it from a different seller who also builds his own brand of guitars, so it was properly set up. (I just sold it yesterday -- offer came in I couldn't refuse!)
The Chinese are capable of producing excellent guitars. It's all about the specification level before the guitar and the quality control put in by the reseller before he passes it on the customer.
You could invest in getting a new nut and bridge cut. Or sell the guitar on, absorb the loss and buy an MM directly from Michael.
