Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this.I am new to the forum.
I am a guitar player of some 50 years and I just bought a 1976 Dobro "Rose" model 36. It needed to be cleaned up a little and I restrung it. It sounds pretty clean and just like you might expect. My question is that I am having trouble verifying the date. The only markings on the guitar are on top of the headstock: B 279 8. Does anybody now where one can date a dobro on the internet? The places I found do not date this one/model, at least as near as I can tell. Thanks

Hi,
I think the B means it has a brass body and the 8 at the end means it is 1978. However, there are much more knowledgeable people here than me who will reply when they see your post.

According to my interpretation of Mark Makin's excellent PTS&RSs book (caveats apply), my understanding is that Bill is 100% correct. A picture would be nice TT

If you are very interested in Dobro history you should get a copy of Mark Makins book about National/Dobro (Mark is often on the forum answering questions about dates etc. ) The book is called `Palm Trees, Senoritas....and Rocket Ships!` You could order it from your library if you don`t want to buy it. There is a thread about it (on Main Street?) PT
