If it works for you, maybe its for you. The current dobro models aren't well thought of but I am sorry I let one that I thought was awesome get away. The next one that came in did not have the magic of the earlier one.

Harriett...do you mean that you had a brown derby (or top hat) and got rid, or some other dobro? The subject fender is a biscuit reso I believe.
I do have a thing with classic styling and don't like platypus instruments, though this particular instrument look kind of works. I will only buy it because of the high degree of playability and the very nice tone, and because they usuall sell to me at cost.

I meant I was in a similar situation with considering buying a spiderbidge - but someone else bought it. Still miss it.

Deuce...I get what you are saying...it's not correct and thus not a threat to the traditional styled instrument market. But it's not as bad looking as the thing they put out a few years ago the reso-tele or something with an F shaped sound hole. But the minute I strummed the brown derby I knew they did not skimp on the cone. I played a lot of bad cheap resos and this would do well in a blindfold test against an NRP or similar...And this is selling on eBay for $299...

I haven't played either one yet, but it looks like Fender is attempting to do a better job with these than they did with the earlier FR-50 resonator guitars. They're very inexpensive, and certainly will get some people started on resonator guitar, which isn't a bad thing. The only review I could find was on Peghead Nation: www2.fender.com/experience/fender-tone/peghead-nation-reviews-fender-resonators/

So you mean 1 3/4 inch... We had a brief encounter with the metric system 30 years ago, I like inches and miles.
Imagine the Who singing "I Can See for Meters and Meters...."

Technically, that'd be for Kilometers and Kilometers. Even worse? (As yank living in France, the switch to metric was easy -- and now pounds and inches make no sense at all to me...) My brother-in-law has this guitar -- he likes it, I think it's a piece of ... well, the Telecaster is an awesome guitar, so's the Stratocaster. But for acoustics... I haven't met a good Fender acoustic yet. It's just not their thing.

Oldpicker, no I did not buy the fender brown derby...yet...it was an impulse interest and though it is a really nice player, I really need to get rid f some guitars...at least that's is wife's viewpoint... I have several vintage resonaters that I have restored to various degrees, and though none is as fretboard-playable as the derby, they would all be chosen before the derby in the event I was summoned for a Royal Command Performance...

Just for the record, I just bought a fender brown derby (cone removed) with nicely busted headstock (long clean break...like scarf) for $85 shipping included on USA eBay. So I will fix it and keep it as a player, or fix and give to a frind. A long shot would be to see if I could salvage the body for one of my reso stick necks. not sure there is a clean way to convert a neck block body to a neck stick body...
