Hi Colin I think you're absolutely correct - it is a Japanese made banjo marketed by Strum & Drum in Illinois. These were first sold in 1971 under the 'Norma' name ( advert included). 'National', their other brand name was used for it the year after. So, not really knowing much about their serial numbers, I would guess this was around in 1972 or a bit later. Best Mark

Mark, Many thanks! I actually have the 1970 Strum & Drum catalogue (or, rather the first few front and back pages, the middle ones are missing, including the one you've scanned p15!)
