Hi all.
Is there anyone near me that I can perhaps meet up with? I have a messer blues that I have never played. After buying it new. It's set up for slide only as the action is quite high. I have started to learn standard acoustic at the moment. Really want to see if I can use this.

Hi ressoman. I can recommend Holmes music on Fleet street - their guitar guy is called Jamie and he should be able to do a set-up for you.

Sadly he is unable to teach. Our show me how to really use it apparently. It was set up ready for slide when I got it. I could just benefit from learning off someone. Daam hard to find a teacher near me.

Is Evesham near enough? I could teach you a few things on the reso, but I'm not a music teacher. I do have a teaching certificate though TT

Slide teachers are always hard to find unfortunately. If you have not already though I would definitely get Michaels DVD it's what gave me my start and I'm sure that is the case for a lot of others on here too. It really does give you a great introduction to get you up and running with the basics so you can start to learn more yourself.
Happy playing David

Hi Ressoman,
You may not need to win the lottery, as I do a few Skype lessons for people at an affordable rate of £60 per hour.
I would think that your guitar is not set up to only play slide on, it just takes practice to play with a high action. Maybe lighter strings would help.
If you do need a setup, Dave King Acoustics at Newbury would be my first choice of an experienced UK based resonator repairer. DK Acoustics now set up all MM guitars before they are shipped to customers.

I'll second that--DK did a great job on my tricone and he ain't a million miles from Swindon. His lad also makes a mean cup of tea!
