I had a few nice comments about the growl I got from my National Resophonics Tricone, so I thought I should post it here. I was learning the song from the original by John Bird included on John Miller's dvd lesson for Vastapol (SGGW), and somehow decided to play it on my Tricone with a slide solo instead of on an acoustic like the lesson. soundcloud.com/bluesking777/oldtimbrookblues1aBluesKing777.

Another great and inspiring posting! Well done Bluesking. Great song. I get a big kick out of listening to material like this and get inspired to reach a goal of achieving a sound like that! As for being able to sing like that, that's another kettle of fish! Cheers.

Thanks very much for the great comments, Nickel!
The National gave a clue it had that sound in it when I bought it brand new at the shop....I played the shop's whole NR range, but this one most definitely spoke up with an unexpected throaty growl that said: 'I'm yours!'
(Track recorded through Shure SM57 to my 4 channel A & H mixer/IMac.)
I am pretty pleased all round!

I clicked the 'like' button, but that doesn't quite do what words can do. I agree with Nickel, it sounds great.

Very nice - it also lends eloquent support to your earlier remarks on behalf of using an SM57 with a good pre-amp for recording, IMO

Thanks Bod.
What you hear is what I recorded 'live' with no EQ adjustment.....'flat' - then direct out to the iMac by USB.
I was pleased with the balance of tracks, but the only very small complaint I have is without a compressor, I didn't get much level.
I have not had as much success with a wood body guitar and the Shure SM57 - probably need to drag out a condenser, but I don't want to move anything...yet.
