Hi all,
I have a Busker Tennessee Dobro which has the tuning pegs in the lap-style orientation of pointing out from the front of the headstock. I can't seem to shake a nervous feeling every time I tune as when the G string goes it can go with quite a bang with heavy strings, and I think I'd rather not have it pointing at my face every time it does...
Is changing the direction of the tuning pegs as simple as unscrewing them and swapping the two sides over?
Cheers,
Matt

Yes! PT Though the right side now goes on the left, and left to right. Sometimes screw holes may not line up. Make sure you dill a small hole for the new screws, do not just try to drive them into fresh wood.

Thanks guys.
Keith, it's not so much when putting new strings on as when tuning old ones! When I hear a creak from the 3rd string I wince...

They look much better facing the right way!
Before putting them back on, use a little bit of soap on the post to keep them running smoothly in the wood. Don't use oil!

Thanks Michael.
Do you mean liquid soap or solid soap, or does it not matter?
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,
Solid soap >a bar of soap. Oil will damage the wood.

Thanks, fortunately I suspected as much and picked a bar up on the way home!

"savon de Marseille" (Marseille soap)is the best! That's what use carpenters before screw on.

I used boot's essentials soap in the end (4 bars for £1.05 ), job's a good'un! Thanks for all the advice.
