My Lightning arrived today, waiting to be unpacked when i got home from work. I've read many other peoples opinions on these instruments and I agree with them all, its awesome, firstly it was very well packed, and the case is good quality, open the case and Wow! I'm just over the moon with it. Tuned it up and tired it out, Wow! again, I've never owned a quality accoustic instrument before, the tone is mellow and metallic, it sustains well, with am amazing range of volume from really quite quiet to really quite loud, really dynamic, and you can FEEL it! Superb.
I took a bit of an educated risk, having never handled or played a resonator, but I am delighted! Now to get stuck in and learn to use the slide..........
So thanks to Michael, for taking all the risks putting it into production, to Robin for his friendly professional manner and great guitar setup, and of course the builders in China.
Where can I get a "Thing" neck rest?
Cheers!
Paul

Hi Paul, THANK YOU! Your kind and complimentary words are very much appreciated. Every single MM guitar that is sold is important to us. We set ourselves a very high standard and every guitar has to be right. If you have never played a National-style resonator guitar before, it will take a little bit of getting used to. If you think it sounds good now, it will sound even better in a few weeks when it has all settled down and bedded in. To get a 'Thing' neck rest, you have to raid a ladies dress shop and steal a hand from one of the mannequins.... Enjoy! Shine On Michael.

Hi Paul I hope, but I am confident that it's worth the wait. How long have you been waiting from ordering to shipping? I orderd my Lighting nearly 8 weeks ago and I am still waiting for a sign from Robin, announcing that the baby is ready. I tried to get news by email 2 weeks ago, but still no answer. So I am a bit confused. Cheers, Alain

About 8 weeks
Resend your email, because they are in a quite rural location sometimes they have internet issues.....
Cheers!

Hi Alain,
I do apologise, but Paul may be right about the Internet and Robin's location. I do know he has been away quite a lot recently, in fact I think he is away this weekend.
You should not have waited two weeks to mention this. Resend your email and maybe give Robin a call. Meanwhile, I will also contact Robin.
Thanks for your loyalty and patience,
Shine On Michael.

Just a little update on this fabulous guitar, I'm still besotted and the pink one is feeling a bit left out. I ordered it with a 13 gauge top e string and in retrospect I should have gone for a 15, I didn't realise that the only difference between a set of 13's and a set of 15's is the gauge of the top e. For me a 13 is too light, easily changed though.....I also found the setup to be a bit high, so bit the bullet and slackened the strings enough to pop them out of the tailpiece, then unscrewed the cover plate, I must admit I was quite anxious as I lifted the cover plate off. There in all its fragile glory was the cone. Marked with a permanent marker so it could go back in the same place I lifted it out and the separated the biscuit, then gently levered out the bridge. Then with a piece of wet n dry on a flat surface (kitchen worktop - she was out - don't tell!! ....) I marked the bottom of the bridge and sanded of 1mm. Carefully reassembled, gradually tuning from the centre out, and now its even better! Same tone, lower action and still usable with the slide...........no rattles!! I guess that having once been a mechanical engineer helped, or was I just lucky??.......Did I mention the sustain?, the dynamic volume range? the almost reverb like quality as the notes fade? I could wax lyrical for hours.... A microfibre cloth cleans the body and strings a treat. Anyroadup, less waffle more learning, the Introduction to Blues Slide Guitar DVD is coming out, wish me luck!
Smoke me a Kipper, I'll be back for breakfast!
Cheers!

Hi Paul,
All good stuff!
I only use 15s on all my round neck Nationals and National-style guitars. That string is always tuned down to D in either D or G tuning, so a 15 feels just right to me.

Hi Paul,
Regarding the 13 top E string: you can get MM Newtone strings as singles, so changing to a 15 doesn't have to involve buying a complete set. I did exactly this after my Blues was delivered. The 15 gives much more bite than a 13. Amazing how .02 makes a difference.
Enjoy your new guitar. Excellent choice! Kind regards, Pat
