I don’t know who this guitarist is but I think his playing of the Blind Willie Johnson classic is really good. He gets a great tone out of that guitar. He says about the guitar - “I have no idea what guitar it is. It`s an old no-name, cheap, ladder braced guitar” Much like the guitar that BWJ played on his original recording in 1927.

Cool how some players can get such a great tone with such minimal dampening. His fingers trailing the slide don't seem to touch the string much at all and his palm is right on the bridge. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!

Jorma Kaukonen does a good cover of this song also. his isn't with a slide though, and is credited to the Rev. Gary Davis' adaptation of the traditional spiritual that dates back at least into the 1880's.

I think he's very tall and has those long elegant fingers and a handspan, which might be his technique is tailored - or natural - for his hand size - I noticed that because someone asked him if he was playing a small guitar, and you can see his size in relationship to a resonator. I wish he did full performances but he doesn't sing on camera. Beautiful, masterful instrumentals IMHO though. And a good "sound" relationship with his recording device.

Keep Your Lamp, he's using quite a bit of palm damping and has a nice touch. If you watch film of most of the old guys you hardly ever see damping behind the slide.
