I heard about Bobby's death a couple of days ago and meant to post something on here, so thanks for doing it. Many years ago I spent some time with Ray Sawyer (Dr. Hook). Ray knew Bobby Bland very well, he was kind of adopted by him when he was a child and always spoke very highly of him. The BB King & Bobby Blue Bland 'Together Again Live' is a classic record. They were great together. R.I.P. Bobby Blue Bland. Shine On Michael.

The one and only time I saw Bobby perform in Britain was when he, B.B. King and John Lee Hooker were booked for three nights at the Hammersmith Odeon (Friday 21 May to Sunday 23 1982). I attended the Saturday night show. Bobby was supported by his own "unit" which included the great guitarist Wayne Bennett. The evening was a knockout but more remarkable events were about to take place elsewhere.
If I may digress, BBK had got wind of the fact that Roscoe Gordon was performing at the 100 Club that evening. After the show King, along with Wayne Bennett, were put into a taxi and taken to the club. Myself and a dozen or more others jumped on the first bus to Oxford Street. King and Bennett arrived during Rosco Gordon's second set. To use popular parlance, Gordon was "gobsmacked", two of the original "Beale Streeters" (BB & Gordon) were back together. The three of them performed a song each and at one point Roscoe swapped piano for guitar....the joint was jumping!

Bobby Bland was a fantastic, soulful singer. Here is a great clip of him with BB. Very entertaining!
