Hi wezzywest,
A while ago we decided to put a 'no lists' policy in place on this forum. This was due to 'what's your favourite guitar...record...singer...etc' threads that were nothing but lists of names of songs, guitars...etc. We had to stop them because they just cluttered up an interesting and useful forum.
I am happy for people to answer your question, but not in the form of a list. For any of us to recommend some artists for you to listen to, we could do with a bit of direction. What sort of slide guitar music are you interested in and who do you listen to?
The 'What are you listening to' thread on the Music Row section of this forum has lots of interesting and diverse stuff on there, much of which is slide and steel guitar related.
Shine On Michael.

Thanks for the reply Michael. Sorry i didn`t realise about the no lists policy. I am new to slide playing and just bought my first resonator. I love acoustic blues/Delta and country blues and spent thousands of hours listening to John Hurt, Blind Blake Gary Davies etc .I am now m and listening more and more to Blind Willie Johnson, Son House and Bukka white. So i am looking for other bluesmen who play slide, to check out. If the the thread has to be pulled then no problem Michael, i will be checking out the Music Row section o a regular basis. Cheers. ps; enjoying your `introduction to Blues Side Guitar`. Thanks once again.

Hi wezzywest,
No problem, there is no reason why you should know about the lists rule. I had to do it because the forum was getting overrun by threads of lists.
It looks to me like you are finding all the right players. I think that a good way to find new people to listen to is to get compilation albums of slide guitar. I was involved with a couple a few years ago that we're released by the now defunct Catfish Records. I am sure that a Google search will turn them up. Classic Slide Guitar Blues volumes 1 & 2, Catfish Records.
.....thanks, I am pleased you are enjoying the DVD.

There's a Swedish guy called Göran Wennerbrandt who plays some stunning beautiful slide on Eric Bibb's two early albums: Spirit & the Blues and Good Stuff. (from 1994 & 97 on Opus3 records) Check that out sometime if you find the CD's.

Hi Wizzywest,
Difficult question to answer. Are we looking at acoustic for electric? What mood are you in? For what it is worth my choice would be a predictable with Robert Johnson on the acoustic front. Mainly because of the way he blends the slide into the rhythm, it sounds simple, but is hard to do (or for me to do,is probably more accurate !!). Although I love Elmore James and Earl Hooker there is no doubt in my mind that my all time favorite is Robert Nighthawk. I would do a deal with the devil for that tone - see you down at the crossroads !! Cheers, Jack.

Blackjack is right - that the best route is the one of personal discovery. While we can all point you in the direction of our favourite players, the moment and mood has to be right for us to appreciate new music.
Having said that, no blues slide guitarist's collection could be complete without some of Mississippi Fred McDowell's music in it.

Mississippi Fred McDowell's cd STEAKBONE SLIDE GUITAR which was originally released as the Transatlantic album "In London, Vol. 2."
Fred solo on electric guitar just after he switched over from acoustic.
It is always in the top 3 of my all time favourite records.
I am on my 3rd copy of it...
