Wolvoboy, I have this and one other song by Fred & Mama Thornton on various compilations. I think it first appeared on 'Ball & Chain'.
Fred was such a great player, one of the greatest slide guitarists and rural blues performers ever. His playing on this recording is absolutely superb. Fred very rarely delivered anything short of a brilliant performance. His importance in the history of the blues, and in particular, his importance as an influence on the British music scene, should never be under-estimated.

Schoolboy, that's the other recording of Fred & Big Mama (Willie Mae) Thornton. They are great cuts, not just for Fred's playing, Willie Mae's vocals are wonderful on both songs. Listening to her singing reminds me a lot of Mavis Staples' recent recordings.
The 'Come & Found You Gone' album is a great one too. There are quite a few recordings of the great man that are well worth having.
Live at the Mayfair Hotel with Jo Ann Kelly, is a wonderful live recording of Fred playing with and to his British fans.
This is another one of my favourite recordings of Fred McDowell...there are too many to choose from! A favourite because it was the first Fred McDowell record that I bought. Issued in the UK as 'Fred McDowell 1904 - 1972' and in the US as 'Somebody Keeps Callin' Me' ......I like hearing him play with bass & drums....a great record.
This is the whole album.....

I love that album with Tom Pomposello - I think it was reissued as I do not play no Rock and Roll, a two CD set, Its one of my favorites of his as well.

Tom Pomposello was a great musician. I never met him, but some of my friends knew him and always speak very highly of him. He died in a car accident in 1999. Tom Pomposello was a friend of the Dopyera Brothers and this Dobro was made for him in 1974. The coverplate was engraved as a gift to Tom by Ed Dopyera. Shine On Michael
