I recently acquired this trashed guitar and have been told it is a 1929 wood body Triolian. Could anyone verify this for me? It has been very poorly refinished a long time ago and the nut is broken, but the cone is good and it doesn't sound bad. The serial number stamped in the headstock is 1451. Any help would be appreciated. Attachments:

Hello You can cross check the reference in this link below. It would initially appear to be a 1929 triolian! I believe early wooden triolians usually sound better than 'not bad'. Really really great in fact, apparently. You lucky b******. TT home.provide.net/~cfh/national.html

Hello Andysguitars. TT is quite correct. It is indeed a 1929 Triolian. The earliest of these around early 1928 have 9 screen mesh diamonds on the coverplate, not drilled like yours. Many of these have no numbers through the latter part of 1928 but they acquire four figure numbers stamped in the top of the headstock through 1929. Number 1000 is roughly February of 1929 and Number 1893 (the highest so far discovered) is around September of 1929 - so you can work out where you think 1451 is.
You are probably aware that it should be yellow painted with red and blue highlights and a 'Hula Girl' decal on the back. Nice find!

Hi Andysguitars, strange thing is that I used to own a 1929 - serial number 1057- wood Triolian refinished very similarly to yours. There have must been someone specialized is such refinishings Anyway it is one of the very best sounding Nationals I've ever had/heard.
