Hi Waffle, It has been far too long since my last album. I was ready to make a new one a couple of years ago, but the deal with the record company never materialised and with one thing and another, the project drifted. Starting up the MM Resonator Guitars business has also been one of the factors that has slowed up me recording a new album. I was planning to release a live album with Louisiana Red which is all recorded, but that too, for various reasons never materialised. I hope to do something with the recordings of fifteen concerts sometime soon. For the past few months I have been working on material for a new album, which I hope to start recording later this year. I am still unsure as to whether I release it through a record company, or do it myself. Although in my music I am always trying to push boundaries, in my dealings with the business I am old fashioned and believe record companies should finance and release records. The problem with that attitude these days, is that record companies are not investing in records because digital theft has become the most common way of collecting music. Not that long ago, the tour was a promotional tool to sell records. These days it has turned on its head and now the record is a promotional tool (a calling card) for the tour. Having said all that, I will be recording an album as soon as I am ready to start. There is a new album just released that I recorded with Ronnie Smith of 'National Debt' fame. The album is called 'Playtime in the Workhouse' and is on Ronnie's own label, No Tom Records. It is not my album, but I am playing on eight of the nine songs. The album is available for download on a few sites, but to get an actual CD you should email Ronnie Smith, there is an email on his website ... notomrecords.comThanks for asking. As a completist collector, do you have the Sound Techniques DVD 'Guitar Maestros - Michael Messer' ? It is a well made film from a few years ago. Shine On Michael

Hi Waffle,
The DVD is a showcase. It has an interview, me playing some solo songs, and Ed and I playing some songs together. It is a very well made high quality studio film. It is not a tuition DVD. There are reviews and clips on my website.
Best wishes,
Shine On Michael.

Just ordered as well, the series is listed under movies as they are DVDs which is probably why I couldn't find it before.

You found some!
Thanks - I hope you enjoy the film. It was made in a beautiful studio in a barn in Norfolk, UK. The interviewer is Trevor Dann, who (if you look up on Wikipedia) has an amazing track record in British broadcasting.

Michael, Just to update have managed to find a copy of Side by Slide.Have been after this for ages.I remember seeing a double bill with Dave Peabody and Spencer Bohren in Scunthorpe around 2007? a good gig.I remember Dave Peabody commenting on how good your slide playing was on the album Michael. Funny enough i don't think he had any copies with him at the time. It's so annoying that's such a recent album is hard to come by , but nice when you find one!

Hi Waffle,
Well done, you found a copy of Dave's album! I enjoyed playing on the tracks and I think all the guest slide players did some great stuff.
Many 'specialist' albums are not manufactured in great quanities and drift into obscurity.
You read about Trevor Dann. Trevor has quite a track record and was great fun to work with.

Well, my copy of King Guitar arrived from Canada this evening, so hoping to listen on my drive to work tomorrow morning, should be great background for a 45 minute drive over the mountains.

Hi Kiwi, That is a great album! you will enjoy it..and is great to drive to, or and just admire the cd artwork while you listen to it at home in comfort! There is a lot of love and thought put into the design of MM's albums other than the music of cause. World Turns To King Guitar!
