Nice one Phil. Would you know if the documentary made about Pearly Brown is available anywhere. Nick

The full length documentary film is well worth watching. I used to have it on VHS tape, I don't know if it is available any more.

Pearly Brown's second album "It's a Mean Old World to Try to Live In" was released in 1975 and a documentary film by the same name premiered in 1977. The album is available on Amazon but only on vynil and it will set you back £37. After much Googling I can find no trace of the film. I can only assume it's out of print. unless anyone else knows better.

The video is available on US Amazon for about £40. I picked up the lp a few weeks ago on evilbay for $30. Well worth it.

Brown was another wonderful "find" of Harry Oster and Richard Allen. Still have the VHS which YT has now made redundant. There's an Arhoolie CD, see discography. www.wirz.de/music/bropefrm.htm

Does anyone know what he's playing? It looks like a custom 3/4 spiderbridge, the neck looks thin.

Hi Slide496,
I think it is a steel bodied brown painted 1960's 'Dopera's Original'. The neck is not narrow, but the small F holes do give that illusion.
I love this film. Back in the early 80s when I first discovered it, I used to watch it a lot.

With his wife Christine Brwon. There's a nice story he tells on his Pure Religion CD as to how he got the 12 string .

Wonderful films. The thing that get me a lot is Rev.Brown`s voice.Powerful singer.I enjoyed to see him listening to the Willie Johnson 78.Good to see Rev.Brown learn the same as the rest of us .

I wonder if the 'dopyera original' is a 10.5" biscuit?
