My new MM Lightning arrived today. Utterly fab!
First impression? I wasn't expecting such a half-decent semi-rigid case - it does the job very well. Nice.
Second impression? Wow! It looks simply gorgeous...
And then there's the sound.
Brought tears to my eyes and sent shivers down my spine. Ok, so I'm an old softie, but hey, that sound is so evocative...
Set up is spot on. Went for Robin's suggestion of a hybrid action - good for slide but still quite frettable - and it seems to work a treat. Certainly a fine compromise while I get used to the guitar.
And man is it LOUD!
My wife wanted me to turn the amp down! But it was in another room, switched off...
Then a mate came round with his electric and a small practice amp, and kept having to increase his level to keep up! We jammed for a hour or so, with stupid grins on our faces.
Am I happy to have been struck by Lightning? You bet. My thanks to Michael, Robin and his team, for such a lovely instrument.
Cheers all

Hi Michael
Just thought I'd piggy-back this thread to let you know of a further Lightning strike, here in Coventry. Having originally considered an instrument from "B" grade stock, I actually now own a 'perfect' MM Lightning. It is indeed very beautiful - very shiny, of course and I love the lightning bolt design. It also has a really nicely grained neck - Robin described it as coming from 'a small batch run'? I have been known to dabble in photography from time to time and may post some photos, if I can work out an interesting/unusual angle, at some point.
The guitar sounds as good as it could do, given the monkey twanging the strings, but I am working on that, playing every day (when the house is empty!) and am indebted to you once more for your excellent "Intro to BSG" dvd. Making lots of newbie mistakes, of course, but I am enjoying myself immensely. Watch out for my first Youtube video in about, say, 4 or 5 years from now...?
Thanks again
Mickey

Hi Mickey,
Thank you for your very kind words about the Coventry Lightning strike!
I think the first thing that attracted me to Nationals all those years ago, was their 'look'. Nickel-plated metal bodied guitars are very beautiful objects, especially when the plating is done well. I would love to see some photos, if you do take some, please post a few on here.
I am pleased you are enjoying the DVD. It takes time and practice to get past those 'newbie mistakes', but it is as you say, great fun making music and learning to play an instrument. I still treat some of my private time with the guitar as the time I spend being a student and learning, and I love doing that as much as I love going out and playing on a stage. If I had known forty years ago when I was trying to learn to play, that four decades later I would still be trying, I might not have started!!!! That is what is so great for me, it is constant journey of learning.
Keep in touch and keep twanging the Lightning....and having fun!
Best wishes,
Shine On Michael.
