Hello All, I've just come across the video below on YouTube. It's been there for 5 months now, so I don't know if it has been commented on the forum. Anyway, I just found it interesting to see how resonators sound really differently from one another. Regards, WL

Their all different with bodies, cones and materials. But that's a good honest comparison for the first time buyer. To my ears the Regal was a bit nasal, the Arnold sounded good, but no sustain.MM lightning sounded best to me, a lot more sustain than the other two.. and a more all round sound. That's only my view though.

Considering that the Alan Arnold is a is a handmade guitar from a single luthier I was surprised that it sounded so average. Of the two wooden ones the Regal (to my ears) at a fraction of the price sounded better. Of the three the Lightning sounded the best.

They are indeed different instruments and it would be unfair to say that one is better than the other. I prefer the MM Lightning too, but, then again, I own one, so my judgment may be prejudiced.
None the less, it is fair to say that the MM Lightning, visually and sound-wise "shines on". What a punch! What a sustain!
Cheers,
WL
