...and Michael, of course.
Just a note to say hello. Been a viewer for a year or so. Been a member for a month or so. 'Bout time I got involved! A bit about me... Guitarist 25 years (is it really that long?). Owned a tele (should have kept it), Les Paul (should have kept it), various other odds and sods. Still got an old Strat, a Takamine, and (before you all nod off) , a cheap and chearful Vintage dobro and an Amistar style N. The last two purchased since christmas. (The style N from the LRC the week before it closed. But that's another story.) So, as you've gathered, new to this sliding lark. Good fun is'nt it. It's re-invigorated my passion for the instrument. I'll keep it short, but i'm sure we'll speak soon...
Kind regards,
Steve.

Hi Steve, Just to reiterate Michael's message of welcome. You'll find a lot of people in a similar situation to yourself on this forum. I've been playing off and on (more off than on ) for 35 years and bought my first resonator five years ago. If you've already been visiting the site for a while you will have realised that this is the best place on earth for advice about all things slidey (and a lot of other things too ). Move over Rover, eh? Do I detect a certain admiration for one James Marshall Hendricks? All the best, Joe (aka Mairena Red)

Thanks for the welcome, guys.
Phil. Small world eh? I'll be in touch. Joe. That's VERY perceptive. You are quite correct.

Hi Steve, Takes one to know one I had the good fortune to see him live at the Isle of Wight (now I'm really showing my age ). Not his best gig perhaps, but still an unforgettable experience. His version of "God Save The Queen" was pretty unorthodox Wore my turquoise Jimi T-shirt for the occasion, though it seems to have shrunk in size over the years ;D All the best, Joe (aka Mairena Red)

Hi Joe, Unfortunately when he played the I o W I was five, and had not yet fully developed my musical tastes . Two of the guys I work with have seen him. One at the Albert Hall in '67 and the other, spookyly enough, at the Isle of Wight. That particlar chap tells me Tiny Tim put on a good show... trouble is I don't know if he's winding me up. Steve. ps. Are we allowed to speak of such blasphemy on a sliders forum???

Hi Steve, Yes, I take your point. I'm not sure if my son (five years old today) is ready for Jimi, though he is a big fan of the Rolling Stones. Gotta start 'em young Your friend is right. Tiny Tim put on an interesting set, though his version of "There'll always be an England" through a loudhailer was somewhat unorthodox. Other highlights included some blistering slide work from Rory Gallagher (all in the best possible Taste ) and some fine bluesy rock from Paul Kossoff and the rest of the boys in Free. Both sadly missed these days. I would have liked to express an opinion about Leonard Cohen, a fine and much-admired singer/songwriter, and the person who got me started on guitar (teenage girls used to get very sentimental listening to his songs), but I'm afraid I fell asleep during his set ;D All the best, Joe (aka Mairena Red)
