Hi Michael. Long (long) time no speak.
I'm toying with the idea of buying a Firebird and setting it up purely for slide (and possibly buying a cowboy hat and bleaching my locks), so I was looking at your electric strings. On the Strings Direct site a guy has left a comment that the MM strings don't intonate correctly on Gibsons due to the scale length. Is he talking out of his hat?
Steve.

Well I've read some flannel on t'interweb before now, but that really is the icing on a stale cake. Flash your plastic and make free with the MMs!
Edit; I meant the Strings Direct "reviewer" of course, not your good self ;<D

Hi SJ,
Good to hear from you again.
I am with Stevie on this; I have never heard of a string not intonating properly on certain brands of guitar. I would say that is definitely talking out of his hat. If a guitar is not playing in tune up the neck, it is not the fault of the string, it is the guitar.
Enjoy your Firebird!
Shine On Michael.

That's kind of what I thought. I've got your strings on my two reso's and they're fine. I particularly think on my dobro looky-likey they sound great. (And the cone has stopped farting.) I'm sure we'll speak again. I'll try not to leave it five years between posts...

Hi Michael. Just thought I'd do a quick update. 'Talking out of his Hat' man was just that... New electric strung with MM light gauge to open E. Fantastic. Had a bit of a re-think on the Firebird though. I managed to pick up a Supro Kingston - all original from 1961. Chicago heaven!!

Hi sj,
Thank you, your message is very much appreciated. A Supro Kingston is pretty different to a Firebird, but very cool. Can we see a photo please?
Told you he was talking out of his hat! I am pleased you like the strings.
Best wishes,
Shine On Michael.

Yep. It was a bit of a deviation from a Firebird. I've been umming and arring over that or an SG for sometime. Couldn't find the right one... found the right one, but too expensive... wanted something played in a bit (ie. vintage = even more expensive ) and found myself going round in circles. Then on one of my random searches I spotted the Supro... It seemed to tick most of the boxes... old, mojo, cool factor, not something the average Joe has got, but most critically - cheap(ish). The photo attached is of the actual guitar as sold by the previous, previous owner (if you get my drift.)

...oh and by the way. Part of what influenced me into getting it was seeing a Kingston on a scan of a 1962(?) Supro catalogue on the Notecannons section.

....it is a beautiful looking guitar. You're right, it is listed in the 1962 catalogue. I am pleased that Notecannons inspired you Last night when replying to your message, I looked back through the thread and I still can't understand how anybody could think a string does not intonate on certain brands of guitar. 'Talking out of his hat' was a very polite way of putting it. Shine On Michael.

It would be a shame if people were put off trying the strings on the back of an ill-informed review. The Supro is great, isn't it. Great sounding pick-up too - quite a wide range of tones and clean or gnarly depending on volume control. The photo is a little flattering. There were a couple of minor issues with it when it arrived, but I soon sorted them out - considering it's 51 years old it's in pretty good shape. My daughter says it pink. I've explained it's sand/buff.
