Hi Michael As a brand new convert to slide guitar I have this week bought a second hand Ozark 3515B (as reviewed in April 05 Acoustic Mag) from e-bay. Although I am pleased with it and it looks the part It does not sound quite as resophonic (or dirty may be the word) as I had hoped. I have heard replacement spun cones are available. My questions are; has anyone tried this?, did it work? and could I, as a pensioner with a screwdriver, do this at home? Also, as per other thread, I tried the magnet test. Only the gold!! cover attracted the magnet. and the spell check did not recognize resophonic

Hi Warwick,
Welcome to our forum. I hope you enjoy your visits and are able to learn and exchange information.
Replacement National Reso-Phonic cones are available in the UK from Frets.co.uk and should be quite easy to fit. Check out Pete's guestbook. Spell Checker's are not great at specialist subjects; I am still teaching mine....Triolian, Tricone, Nat Res, Dobro....etc!
Keep in touch,
Shine On, Michael.

Hi Warwick. I bought a 3515 a few years back and upgraded it about two years ago with a John Quarterman cone (bought from Stew-Mac). I also fitted a bone nut and an ebony saddle and replaced the rather naff (to my taste) "gold" hardware with a chrome ' chickenfoot' cone cover, chrome tailpiece and tuners. It now looks and sounds much better, though it's still very weighty! There is no problem doing a straightforward cone swap; the only advice I would give is to be careful tightening up the screws on the cone cover as it is all too easy to tighten them too far and strip the thread. Yes, I speak from experience... but fortunately not on this guitar; it was an old Regal 'dobro' I was cleaning up for a mate and he did not notice the superglue... You can see pics of and hear my 3515 on my website at www.gerrycoopermusic.co.uk and MySpace page which is www.myspace.com/gerrycooperCheerily, Gerry C

Thanks for the advice Pete and Gerry. I need to practice a bit before I can do justice but I may just have a project for the long winter evenings. I must say I've had more fun playing slide, both at home and in the club, however badly, than I've had for years.
