Hi Michael,
I have just started playing slide for the first time on a recently purchased MM lightning, after being inspired by all the shiny guitars I saw at Blues Week last year. I was taking the finger style classes only, and have never played slide or a resonator before. I've put on some MM Newtone 15-56 phosphor bronze strings for playing in open G and open D. I also want to play finger style in standard tuning on the guitar without changing strings. Is it OK to use these strings in standard tuning without putting excessive pressure on the neck or cone.
regards Mark

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for becoming an MM guitar owner.
It will not harm your guitar in any way to tune 15/56 strings in standard EADGBE tuning.
Keep in touch,
Shine On Michael.

Hi Michael Thanks for the quick reply. This website and forum is a superb reference for the novice slide player like myself. I have another question regarding strings. Would the plain unwound Newtone strings sold individually by Eagle Music be the same type of string as the unwound strings in a set of MM Newtones. I was thinking that I could substitute a 14 or 13 for the 15 if playing in standard tuning for a long period.
Regards Mark

Hi Mark,
It is a pleasure to be able to help & advise. Thank you for your kind words.
The plain Newtones are the same as MM strings, it is the wound ones that are different. Replacing a 15 with a 14 or 13 is absolutely fine. I often leave 15/56 in EADGBE for long periods, so it is not something that would harm your guitar in any way. I have got used to it and don't even think about it anymore.
Keep in touch,
Shine On Michael

I must try out your strings too, Michael. My supplier in Sweden of the strings I normally use has run out and will not carry them anymore..
Is anyone here in Sweden selling the MM reso strings?

Thanks for the recommendations for John. Certainly in the UK, Strings Direct are the people to get them from.
I don't have anything to do with sales or distribution of the strings, but I will check with Newtone who sells them in your neck of the woods.

Michael, I'll find and try the heaviest, might go fine on the fiddle-edge tuned down to F..

Just switched over to the heaviest MM phosphor bronze strings from nickel and am pretty happy about the improved sound on my 3/4 J Winter. They sell the strings here in the US. through www.tribotone.com and a complete line at www.juststrings.com

Hi John,
This is the dealer in your neck of the woods for Newtone Strings....
No1 Guitarshop Johannebergsgatan 14 412 55 Göteborg Tel. 031-160049
I would use the red packet - phosphor bronze 16/59s on the Dobro. Some people prefer the blue packet (nickels), but that is a personal taste thing
Let me know how you get on with them
Shine On Michael.
