I just recently read about the MM-Newtone electric slide strings on this site. As near as I can tell they cannot be had in the U.S.A..I would need to order from a shop in the U.K., or order direct.. I am sure they are fine strings, but I was just wondering how they contrast to standard Fender, GHS, or DR pure nickel strings as far as playability, sound..etc.
Thanks, txslide

Hi txslide,
Newtone MM Electric Slide Classic Strings are designed with open tunings in mind, so the core thicknesses are different to regular Fender, Ernie Ball, GHS ...etc. Also, all Newtone Strings have a round core, rather than a hexagonal core, which is what all mass-produced strings have. A round core is better for tone, touch and volume, but cannot be wound at the speed of a hex core, because the winding slips. So all Newtone strings are hand wound one by one by Malcolm Newton & two assistants. They really are hand made. I have used Newtone strings on all my guitars since 1991 when I first met Malcolm and we started making MM National Strings.
Newtone Strings are available in Canada & the USA. I do not know the names of the USA delears so I recommend you email Malcolm and I am sure he will put you in touch with the right dealer.
Shine On, Michael.

In addition to the last message - I just caled Malcolm Newton and he is going to email me a list of US dealers which I will add to this thread. Meanwhile he did tell me that GUITAR GALLERY in Nashville carry the full range of Newtone Strings.
Shine On, Michael.
