JIM & BOB >CD RELEASE IN THE SPRING...... My good friends over at Grass Skirt Records are currently working on finishing their long awaited project, the Jim & Bob (the Genial Hawaiians) CD. For fans of early Hawaiian steel guitar, this is an essential record to have. Jim & Bob's total recorded output was only 12 sides, all recorded on one day in December 1933. Bob Pauole was arguably the greatest acoustic Hawaiian steel player of all, and with his rhythm guitarist, Jim Holstein, they cut 11 of the most beautiful Hawaiian steel guitar records ever made. I have said 11 because one recording features Bob playing ukulele, which he also plays beautifully. I have no connection to Grass Skirt records, other than the fact that I am writing some liner notes for the CD booklet. Shine On Michael.

That is good news; not least because it means that there are around 8 tracks by Jim and Bob that I've not heard yet but will be able to listen to shortly ;D - can't wait! (Genial they may have been, but I think they could be known as 'the Genius Hawaiians' - never heard anyone else do 'Home on the Range [The Song of the Range] like that

Hi Bod, The Hawaiian guitar solo by Bob Pauole on the end of 'Song of the Range' is one of the most beautiful guitar solos in any genre ever recorded. It goes to a place that only very few musicians ever reach. It is superlative, unsurpassed and outstanding! Nuff said Shine On Michael.
