I've noticed problems with the understrung construction on the one I have with it. It develops rattles, depending on the age of the strings and the humidity.
If the strings are on for a while and lose elasticity the bass will make contact with the underside of the tailpiece with tuning and the treble won't which I think puts too much pressure on the bass side. The last time I had rattles I noticed that the top two strings weren't connecting at all. That's not something that would happen with an overstrung.
Regards all, H

Recording King Resonator Guitars are designed to have the strings strung underneath the tailpiece lip because the Tailpiece is set really close to the bridge. I cannot allow people to consistently post misleading and untrue information on this forum. What Oscar is saying is just totally untrue. The guitars being discussed are understrung either because the person fitting the strings doesn’t know their job, or because the guitars are built with the neck angle set too shallow for the correct stringing method. It is NOT A DESIGN FEATURE! That is just completely wrong. I think it is time to ask Oscar to stop posting on this forum. Shine On Michael

I guess the ‘proof of the pudding is in the eating ‘. I have asked Oscar to post a video showing the ‘better tone with lighter strings’ but despite having a large number of videos on various instruments on YouTube he has not provided one .
It would be great if he could prove his ideas were true, but so far there is nothing to show this Pete

Shine On Michael I've had to do the same on the Resonator Guitar Appreciation Page too.

In the old days when nobody knew any thing about National's & Dobro's and how to set them up it was excusable / exceptable to see some guitars which were understrung . This gave more pressure on the cone . because it did not have the right neck angle .To day its different . If its a decent guitar that has to be understrung , then the guitar needs a neck reset . As Michael said its not a design feature and is completely wrong .
