Muff Winwood and his little brother Steve along with Spencer Davis joined to form The Spencer Davis Group in 1963.
Steve was 14 years old at the time.
In 1966 after so-so success with other writer's tunes, the band's manager rented a studio and told the band to stay in there until they wrote a song of their own.
The story goes that in less than an hour Gimme Some Lovin' was born, mostly created by 17 year old Steve.
It was resurrected afterward, but the band pretty much cratered in 1967 when he left to form Traffic.
This is not a belittlement. It would take a singer, a keyboard player, a guitar player and a songwriter to fill the void. All needed at once.
SINGER
KEYBOARD PLAYER
A GUITAR PLAYER
A SONGWRITER
Just sayin' mitchfit

mitchfit--your link took me back 20 odd years when, with my new found enthusiasm for this wonderful new invention called an imacG3,I created loads of favourite/favorit CD's from cassettes and CD's I already owned using Roxio and Toast (remember them?) and not only compiled a track list but printed a cover. The net being what it was in those days--Jeez I'm really sounding like an old fart--I could only find a limited selection of Ford Thunderbird pics, which was the obvious choice for the cover.I wish your pic had been available then.

The above post by Pickers Ditch inspired me to dig out some Kokomo Arnold.... Again,I think RJ listened very intently to Arnold...

I once tried to learn Kokomo Arnold's Paddlin' Madeline but soon realised I didn't have a spare twenty years. That slide lick at the end is wonderful.
