Must say I’m enjoying Leland Sklar’s daily rambling reminiscences on his 2,000+ album career, artists he’s worked with, plus a bit of bass playing, on YouTube. Cheers

Bob Dunn's Vagabonds Steel Guitar 7 songs 1939. The unique stylings from Bob Dunn is very different from what others were playing back then. It always seems to work well with the electric mandolin, a combination you just don't hear that often.

I have a few of the Texas Vagabonds recordings. They were obviously influenced by Bob Wills Texas Playboys arrangements and Sol Hoopii's guitar playing. Bob Dunn's background as a trombone player shines through in the way he phrases things, his steel playing is very horn-like. The problem I have always had with Dunn's steel playing is his control of pitch. To my ears he is more often than not, not quite on the notes. Shine On Michael

I haven't heard this tune in over 30 years. It's the flip side to In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry that I have a 45 of.

Hank Williams was a genius and in my opinion was one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His enormous catalogue of work includes so many classics. I don't think he ever wrote a bad one.
I met Jerry Lee Lewis in 2004. He's a wild one, that's for sure! You wouldn't want to spend too much time in his company, but his music is incredible, no question about it.

I love Nina Simone's music. She was an amazing woman. In 2001 I shared the bill Nina Simone at the Bishopstock Festival in Devon. It was towards the end of her life and the whole event, from Nina's arrival in the backstage area, to and including the performance, and then the after show, was a mixed event of sadness and wonder. Nina was almost unable to perform, but there were moments of glimpses into who this amazing woman was. I watched her show perched on a viewing platform for the artists with Peter Green, who went through similar emotions as I did while watching her trying to be the artist we were expecting to see.
