Just noticed a Black Diamond String for sale on eBay.
It states on the label that the strings are manufactured by The National Musical String Co.
Any connection to the original National guitar manufacturer?

Nope!
Pre-war Nationals were made in various locations around Los Angeles in the 20s and early 30s by the NATIONAL STRING INSTRUMENT CORPORATION. After 1934, the were made in Chicago by the NATIONAL DOBRO CORPORATION.
Black Diamond Strings were made from 1890 or so by the NATIONAL MUSICAL STRING COMPANY of New Brunswick, New Jersey
Only about 2000 miles apart!
National Cash Registers, National Sports cars, National Car Rental, National Geographic and US made National Washboards also have no connection to the guitars!!

Point taken Mark!
You must admit though, there is a likely connection between National Guitars and National strings- even though they were 2000 miles apart.

I have to admit that many years ago, I, too had to check it out for myself as I thought there MUST be a connection! It's amazing how the 'National' name imprints itself across your vision!!

That’s interesting, I’m going to keep an eye on that and see how much it goes for or if sells at all! A few years ago when a local music shop closed down the owner gave me a box containing couple of hundred assorted old musical instrument strings. Amongst these were a few Black Diamonds some in red packets (like this one on e-bay) and some in brown. I’ve no idea of the age of these but it looks like he’d had them for donkey’s years. Also in the box were some old Cathedral Strings “British Music & Tennis Strings Ltd. London”. A couple of the ones for Electric Hawaiian Guitar have prices written on the back of the packet in old money, 1/10 (1s.10d) and 2/4 (2s.4d). Decimalisation was in 1971 so that makes them 40 years old at least! A few Ukulele Banjo “Best English Gut” And a couple for Electric Plectrum Guitar. So maybe I’m sitting on a nice little gold mine…. but somehow I doubt it! Cheers Tymus.

From my other all life consuming leisure interest National is a common name n'est pas? The HRO is a revered shortwave receiver. My example is in the loft! I recall taking a second look when I first came across National guitars too. I don't think this qualifies as a list.....
