Hi everybody.
Could you tell me where I could find a HEAVY stainless steel slide? I play some great green glass, bronze and brass slides, all are heavy, and all have very different tones. I also like the sharp, dry tone of the steel slides, but those ones commercially available are very thin... any advise?
many thanks

There are a few King Slides at www.frets.co.uk/ - King Slides are no longer manufactured. They are IMO the best steel 'slides' & 'steels' (Hawaiian Bullets) that have been produced. Shine On, Michael

thank you Michael
I was just hoping they were still available somewhere, I have one of these, it's the light model but it's great. I've just e-mailed Ron at ron@daveking-acoustic.com, as the e-address of the frets web site do not work. I decided that steel match better than brass or dark green glass with my wood body Triolian having this guitar such a rich, warm tone on his own. When I had a Duolian ( sold to get the Trio........) I did prefer brass or glass with it.

A while ago i bought some long socket wrenches from halfords and cut the end off with a hacksaw. They work pretty well as slides but are v heavy.
It's a pain cuttin the end off and i'd use a carbon steel blade as normal ones go blunt too quick. I used wet n dry to smooth out any rough edges.
Socket cost me £3 each - Blade £2

I've been using a excellent glass slide (from Diamond Bottlenecks) but I fancy trying metal. I've made the mistake of buying a Dunlop slide but it's absolute rubbish; way to thin and light. The polish isn't very good either, it looks very shiny but it isn't smooth enough because you can feel it rasping on the strings as you slide. I’ll have to see if I can get a King slide.

Hi Blisters,
in these days I've checked Ron at ron@daveking-acoustics.com for a heavy steel King slide, but at the moment had no reply... Ron, where are you? Here are some people ( at least Blisters and me ) needing a King slide!
As for the Diamond, I agree, they are wonderful sounding. I have one of these beauties (an Ultimate), along with some italian wine (eh, eh!) very dark green bottlenecks. In the metal planet, I prefer the dry tone and sharp feel of steel.
...so, Blisters, If you can check Ron please tell me, I will do the same

Hello guys
if you have any fabrication or forming firms in your area they may allow you check out their scrap bins for off cuts of tubing...there are different grades as well as gauges that will give varying weights.
good luck

King Slides are most definitely THE steel slides to get hold of - i particularly like the phosphor bronze model....it gives a warmer tone to my ears than the stainless steel range. I agree about the above comments on the Dunlop slide range - if you're a first-timer at the 'entry-level' (noodling around to see if slide works for you) - most certainly try some out 'cos they're cheap, and they'll make slidey noises, but when you become more adept with a slide and go on to experiment with string gauges, different guitars etc.....you'll notice how much more of a tonal improvement the currently available custom slides allow you over the shop-bought cheaper pyrex & thin steel tubes Hey Anthony (Mirrormist)...your new piece left here in today's post . Slide On! Ian. www.diamondbottlenecks.com

Hey Thanks Ian...I can't wait the dunlop slides are fine for light gauge electrics if you don't want to mess about changing string gauges for different tunings...in fact i bought one in St Louis for a budding young guatr player...they are a tad on the long side but are fine as an introduction. best wishes

I've got a Rock Slide, which is nice, it has a taper fit, and a couple of flats on the sides to rest your next finger on. Its heavy too, and gives a good tone to my ears. Trouble is even the large size is a bit too small for my long little finger, my finger top pops out the end of the slide. Actually I like playing with brass slides, I like the slight drag on the strings that it gives. I have access to a buffing wheel,so every now and again, I give my brass slides a good polish.
I was going to get a King Slide, but I think I may have missed that boat....

I picked up a "Picato Pete's" heavy brass slide from a music shop a few months ago for about £7. It is 58mm long with an ID of 18.5mm and 3.5mm brass walls.
It is the best sounding (and for me best fitting) heavyweight lump of metal I've come across so far.

Could you tell me where I could find a HEAVY stainless steel slide? I was at a guitarshow in Holland a few weeks ago, where I spoke to a German guy who made heavy stainless steel slides, as far as I can remember. He also made resonator guitars out of normal acoustic guitars, and that's what I looked at, so that was the reason I only noticed these slides from the corner of my eyes. I can remember however he had a small piece of paper which described his slides, you know, material, weight, the manufactoring process, etc. If you're really interested I can put some effort in it and find his mail-address or other information. Regards, John.

Blisters, good news : www.frets.co.uk will be soon working again, and Ron (very kind person) told me he has many King Slides still available. Windmill, thank you! If you can have the contacts for that german guy, I am sure many of us in this forum could be interested, as his slides could probably be handmade things. keep on buzzing and dampening
