Again thanks everyone - I feel like I'm in great company here. I looked at Peters site for the upgraded guitars - looks like he does a cracking job and worth the extra. I would be very reluctant to buy a guitar without playing it normally but I guess with Peter you could do confidently. Slide playing is addictive I agree.
ChickenboneJohn - I bought one of your CBGs on Ebay a year ago and I loved the little b****r - it got me hooked so much I've started making them myself. Sold a few to friends who love 'em too. It's one of my most played instruments now and has really helped my slide technique develop. I want to step up to something a bit more "beefy" now with a reso and take my playing a step further.

Michael if you're reading this. I bought your DVD and you are playing a wood bodied single cone which sounds really mellow. I was thinking I should go for a tri-cone brass body because opinions seem to suggest a warmer sound than singles which is what I want. Generally wood bodied budget guitars seem a lot cheaper than brass ones. Would I get a similar warmer sound and but a better quality guitar for the same price as a brass bodied one?

Another thing - I'm finding it hard to find any resos in music shops to try any. Only found one so far. Anyone know any good places in the North of England where they might have few?

"Anyone know any good places in the North of England"
Frankly, no, at least I don't know of any in the North West. I would say it's worth a day trip to London to visit the London Resonator Centre.

I don't really have much experience of the imported wooden bodied biscuit bridge single cones, although I've not been that impressed with the ones I've tried. However they change all the time so my view of them may no longer be valid - they don't seem to be as popular as the metal bodies so the various brands seem to appear and disappear very quickly.
The only wooden bodied tricone I know of is the Ozark, which is let down by rubbish cones. For wooden bodied spider bridge I wouldn't buy anything except a Regal or a Beard Goldtone. Even then your best bet is to try everything you can, because even the same make and model can vary quite a bit.

Frailers is up around the manchester area The link www.acousticfingerstyle.com/ResonatorsExplained.htm - has mp 3 files on the different styles of body etc You may have fun searching for a mid priced wood biscuit bridge guitar - there arent that many around sub £700. There are in Dobro world - personally i liked the Goldtones i tried. Roj

Frailers is a good bet. He's got new nationals and 2nd hand dobros in. When I was in last week he had a "vintage" tricone and some other interesting bits and pieces. It's easy for me to visit as I'm only a mile away but it is worth traveling for a visit to sunny Runcorn. ( Nearer to Liverpool than Manchester).

Thanks - I'll check out Frailers as I often work in Manchester and occasionally Liverpool. Just been to Newcastle today - three good guitar shops but only found a Fender Style O which is also the only one I found in three shops in Manchester centre last week. S few shops in Leeds to check out nect time there.
Pete I like the feedback I've seen of your guitars - pity you're in IOM otherwise I'd be paying a visit. I like the idea of the upgraded Regal Tricone you have but I haven't tried enough guitar types to know if that's what I should get (and haven't saved enough pennies yet). I would normally want to try a guitar before spending a few hundred on it but from what people have said about you I might be prepared to chance it unseen if I had previously tried an unmodded one and knew I liked them. I think I'm getting dizzy - need a lie down.
