Hello gyes, I just bought a goldtone dobro style one (finally) and it sounds great but I think it would need a little more bass and volume- what would happen if I take of the diaphragms of the soundholes(0 shape ), off ?

Hi John,
The solution to the bass and volume problem you have is likely to be cured by doing a good set-up on the instrument. Type "Dobro setup" into google and you will find loads of info on the subject.
Note that some very subtle changes (like simply changing the strings to MM Newtones or getting the central screw tension right) will make huge changes to the instument's voice.

Taking the soundhole screens off may help or it may not, it varies from guitar to guitar. From what I've read it seems to have more impact on instruments with the traditional soundwell construction.
Be very careful, though, the screens are often stuck to the varnish and you can damage the finish of the guitar taking them off. Unfortunately the ones on the Chinese and Korean guitars are not the same size as American ones so you can't swap them for the screenless rings that Paul Beard sells.
