Dear Michael Messer, I have some questions concerning strings and amps. I play a cheap copy of a Gibson J 45 with Martin 013 strings on it. Together with the old DeArmond soundhole pickup it sounds perfect for picking and sliding! I like that sound very much. But I didn't find good strings for my Gibson Es 125 (1953). Do you think the neck of this guitar is strong enough for your recommended MM 015 strings? I only play in open D with this guitar. Since a short time I own a Continental tricone from 1993, it is a very good guitar, I think like a national in quality. For that guitar I will try your heaviest strings. Now I'm looking for a good amp. I like the sound of Elmore James, the early slide sound of Muddy Waters, the early distorted Sun Blues sound or a mix of them all. I have a Fender tweed blues junior which sounds good with my Gibson copy, but not so good with the Es 125. Eventually I will buy me a little old vintage amp. But I have no chance for testing different amps. The only one I know in my area is a Gibson GA 5 from 1955, full checked for 1200.- Swiss Francs ( 480.- £) which I will try in next time. I read about your amp, sounds good and 695.- £ are not so much but too much for me in the moment. What are the technical specifications of this amp? Is this amp to hear on your cd's? Thank you very much for your time ! With kind regards Richi Murer

Dear Richi,
I have been offline for a while, so apologies for not responding to your message. MM Newtone strings 15 to 56 will be fine on your acoustic in open D or G tunings....no problem at all. Regarding amps - the MM signature model is made by Amp Dr John and the spec is pretty much identical to a late fifties Fender Champ. If that is too expensive for you - try all the small valve amps available. It must be a valve amp and not a pretend valve amp. Which brand.....there are so many these days. Or....hunt for an old one from the 50s & early 60s.
Al of my recordings are with one of two amps - my MM Champ Amp and my 1957 National Westwood amp that I got for 75USD about 15 years ago.
Keep in touch, Shine On, Michael
