Hi guys.
I have a Vintage AMG (the early brass bodied single cone).
I have recently, on the advise of MM, got a genuine National cone from LRC. This has made a huge difference to the tone and volume.
I was just wondering what could be done about the cheap bridge and biscuit. I know that MM comented on how deep the cone sits in the body, thus influencing the height of the bridge.
Is there a better quality product that I can buy that would fit this budget guitar and improve the tone/sustain further?
Great forum!
Cheers Paul

Cheers Pete,
I notice on your website that you use these.
They look like a nice bit of kit and I can understand how they improve sustain.
Have you fitted one of these to an AMG 1, because I am worried that the height will not be correct. As I said in my first post I think Michael mentioned that the bridge on the AMG 1 was tall due to how deep the cone sits in the body.
Thanks for your quick response.

I'm not sure if I've done an AMG1 or not - there's been so many I've forgotten most of them. Is there a lot of bridge even with the National cone? The setup on these things varies a lot anyway and some bridges are taller than others so it's difficult to be specific. All the far eastern cones I've seen have been shorter than the National so I've had to reduce the bridge height when I've fitted the National and used the original biscuit.
For the ones I've done the carbon fibre is better because the biscuit still sits marginally below the coverplate so there's less chance of it rattling. I've never found the bridge height to be a problem, but obviously you'd have to cut down the bridge, shape it and cut the string slots to suit your own setup.

Thanks for the info Pete, The bridge height is slightly higher with the National cone, but if still fits nicely under the cover. I didn't have to modify the biscuit when I fitted the National cone. If anything, the height is now better for slide. I suppose the worst case scenario would be that I had to cut down the new bridge, but that should not be a problem. Thanks again Paul
