Just asking, I have been sitting in front of my tv and looked Michael's, Rory Block's and Bob Brosmans teaching dvds. All of them are very good and if I understand - very different. Rory Block seem to push a lot of energy in her guitar and she is forcing sound out of there (overriding). Bob seem to have very analytical and systematic playing policy - like mathematics. He seem to be using lot of energy too and playing with high volumes ( I'm not sure of that). And Michael - you seem to play with sensitive touch without plenty of force. If I have seen and listened it correctly you are taking that volume that is naturally available from you reso?
Major thoughts that arose during listening and watching those dvds was that you can be good reso player with very different styles ;D!

Hi Pertti,
I used to play my National guitars so loud that it was part of my music. I was younger & I loved to play delta blues on a National Duolian with as much power & volume as I could get out of a 50 year old tin-can. As I grew older & more experienced my playing just naturally gradually changed, and probably is still changing & maturing. Just because ones car can do 100mph doesn't mean that you have to drive it at that speed all the time! I like to get the natural volume & tone from the guitar and not push it to number eleven all the time. Resonator guitars are very loud machines and don't need to be played hard to make great music.
Pertti, your last sentence about musicians and their differences is right on the money!
Keep in touch, Shine On, Michael.
