Hi Michael, Just a line to say how much I enjoyed your classes at Pocklington. I had a great time and learnt a lot. Sorry we tired you out! Chris

Yeah, thanks Michael (and all of you) for being supportive and not laughing! I've learnt so much (well, let's be honest, the only way is up!).
You probably didn't realise how nervous I was playing in front of, and with other people. I hit so many bum notes and clunking the slide on the neck, etc.
However, it was a great experience and I feel like I'm now headed in the right direction. If I've got the balls, I'll come back next year, and you'll see lots of improvement.
I'm off for a thrash (without tab) and to have some fun!
Big Bad Dom (bad - it does what it says on the tin!)

Hi Chris & Dom, Thank you for your kind words. It sounds like you enjoyed the weekend as much as I did. It's hard work, but very rewarding. I reckon we achieved an amazing amount and covered a lot of ground....blues BLUES & MORE BLUES! Keep in touch, Shine On, Michael.

Hi Michael & co. Really sorry I missed it. Family commitments dictated otherwise on this occasion. Plus, I had a paid gig on the Friday. (Well of a sort). And Dom, a couple of yeras ago I was sitting in Michael's classes just as scared to death as you of playing in front of other people. Truth is we all are, to a greater or lesser extent. But if I can do it, I'm sure you can too. And Michael's definitely the man to get you there. Stick with it. It's a great ride!

Hi Michael and everyone! Yes I was sorry to miss the Pocklington weekend too - it's a long camel-trek from Darkest Dorset! I've already heard lots of enthusiastic reports of your slide classes at the weekend, Michael. I don't know any other tutor who gets people really PLAYING in their classes quite like you do - yes it scares us all witless, but it's gotta be the best way to learn. Your encouragement and inspiration is very much appreciated. Sonya

Hi Sonya, Chris, Dom, Martin....& all,
Thank you for your kind words about my teaching at EBA events. I really do believe it is the way to learn to play this kind of music, or any folk music. Okay I agree that it really helps to be shown certain moves and runs, but the best way to put that into action is to PLAY. Most folk music was learnt this way in the old days, still is in lots of places. A circle of musicians, some are masters, some are beginners & some are halfway, but everyone plays together until the sun comes up. Over the years of doing this on a regular basis, the talented & ambitious young ones grow up to become masters. Well we don't have much social music in this country, but when we meet for classes at EBA events, that is the atmosphere I try to create for the classroom. I am very happy & proud that you all enjoy the classes so much.
Shine On, Michael.
