Hello all, I saw a vintage National add add in Bob Brozman's book for a 14 fret Duolian on page230(upper left corner) stating that the mahogany necks were steel re-enforced. would that be the case for my Duolian # C 8192? I actually brought it back to the US from London in 2000. cheers, Peter www.myspace.com/sawtelles

Peter,
Maybe! Here's how you find out: stick a fridge magnet against the back of the neck. If it stays there, you brought a fridge back instead of a guitar...
Aloha,

Hi there, When I was getting my 1934 Duolian's warped neck sorted (14 fret neck) (will need to check serial no. when I get home but is late '34) - with heat press treatment, I anticipated it would help to know if it was likely to have a truss rod or not. I took it to work (I'm a Dentist) and x-rayed it ! No metal truss rod. No cavities either !!!
Neck straightening by an Edinburgh repair guy, worked fine. Unfortunately, it still needed a neck reset. Thus I decided to send it down to Dave King in Reading for expert work. Unfortunately the Edinburgh repair guy I had used also f'ing stuck down the cone with bath silicone sealer.
Dave King, and I believe Michael Messer himself, apparently spent days trying to get the vintage cone unstuck (to take the guitar apart to do neck reset. Result ? Cone unfortunately damaged beyond repair (reshaping etc) trying to get it unstuck.
Moral - only EVER let a QUALIFIED NATIONAL REPAIR guy do NATIONAL repairs ! Absolute false economy letting any old repair guy work on a National.

Hi Snakehips,
Bet it didn't leak!!! (sorry!!) Just what you need if you're going to use it as a 'fridge. You could store cans of beer in it!
Cheers, Clive.
