Saw Rory Block live last night. She was great, her own music was pretty good and she did an a capella that was hair on the back of neck tingling, but what most interested me was seeing her play some Robert Johnson songs. I'm so used to hearing the old crackly recordings that a real live guitar sounded fantastic, and her playing is pretty 'authentic' to Johnson's own sound. I'd really like to learn a few of his songs or at least some of his licks, but it's difficult to find good tab. I know there are books available but I'm not sure if any of them are worth it and I'm not especially interested in a note perfect (dead) replica of his songs. Can any one point me in the right direction or even post a few lines on this forum?

Rory block has her own istructional tape/DVD on homespun called "The power of delta blues guitar". If you want to nail it like her this is great. Another fine player is John Hammond who on star licks master series also covers this style. Either way watch and then add some of your own playing style as the old delta guys all copied and then made it there own! Regards Lee.
