Wow thanks for calming me down Honeyboy, and thanks for the schedule too.
Michael - I am very pleased that you can be involved in something that I think is so important. - To get kids interested in music as early as possible. It seem like the producers have got the right idea about the quality too. Children have enough of being 'played down to". They should be exposed to nothing but the best, whatever the genre.
It is wonderful to see the way that once a child is interested they can take up an instrument and become totally involved. They learn so fast too. Musical sponges. A good musical grounding once in place may be returned to and further developed at any time for the rest of their lives. Now I wont stop humming,
ABCDE its time for Willums tea, FGHIK We'll see you another day, LMNO its time for us to go, PQRST and the cat went fiddle eee dee........
I'm glad that the policy is that the whole song can't be posted for copyright reasons, as I can't get much further than that!

You beat me to it! I was going to mention the Ry Cooder Muppets appearance as the only other slide guitar children's TV experience that I can think of. I haven't watched the You Tube clip, is it complete with Ry as the janitor with the pig in the broom cupboard? It's a lovely one! There were some wonderful musical moments on the Muppets, Elton John doing Crocodile Rock was another great one. This thread is an interesting one - twisting and turning its way through children's TV music and slide guitars. I wonder if James Galway's forum is doing the same thing with the flute? Shine On Michael.

CBEEBIES UPDATE I have just heard from Chris Banks, the show's musical director and composer. Apparently the BBC has divided 40 episodes into two series; 20 episodes in the Spring (first show Easter Monday), and 20 episodes in the Autumn (dates to be announced). Lots of great musicians in these shows. I'll certainly be tuning in on Easter Monday Shine On Michael.

I don't remember Alexis Korner on 5 o'clock Club, but I do remember Ollie Wally Whyton was in the Vipers and their version of Don't You Rock Me Daddy'o was a big hit. I met Wally on a few occasions. Along with his brush with pop-stardom and his stint on children's TV, he also was the voice of Country music on BBC radio 2 for 20 years or so, plus he did other radio shows for various BBC stations. He interviewed me in 1988 at Broadcasting House for the World Service. Shine On Michael

I shall have to get my grandsons to tune in: I don't think I have CBBC at home!
Talking of children's TV and musicians: anyone recall Shirley Abicair and her autoharp? Or was it a zither? And one of my (30 yr old) son's treasured possessions is the CD of songs from Alphabet Zoo by Ralph McTell. He was delighted a few years back to see Ralph in concert and bought an Alphabet Zoo poster, now properly autographed! Considering the songs were "written to order" there is some very high-quality stuff - but from Ralph, that's what you get every time!
Cheerily,
Gerry C
