I seem to be finding myself tuning up to A or E quite often at the moment on my single cone Resound "Blues" (wood bodied 12 fret round neck, 24.75 scale, fitted with a biscuit bridge and Quarterman cone). I use standard medium gauge strings (13-56) and always come back to standard tuning before I put the guitar to bed (that's whether I've tuned up or down).
This little gutar really zings along in the higher tunings (which also suit my voice better than open G or open D). It sort of feels like the cone needs that bit more pressure to come to life. It is fine in standard tuning but a little lacking when I tune down.
Does anyone else use higher tunings on their biscuit bridge single cones with 13-56 gauge strings? Anything I should be aware of?

Hi Robn,
Lots of people use high tunings...E & A. If you are sensitive to these things, which I am sure you are, you can tell when things feel a bit tight and could pull the neck or crunch the cone.

I tend to stick to open G or D (i generally gig with two resos these days) and capo on the 2nd fret thus giving me E or A... I don't sing (if i did i'd need to tune the guitar to J Demolished!) so i haven't got that issue to worry about. I find it pretty cool using a capo this way cos it gives me 4 tunings to play with. When capoing it also gives me the advantage of having an extremely low action so i can do some nice speedy fretwork - the downside being that i'm reaching up to the 14th fret and beyond whilst sliding etc... just my 2 penneth
