Hi Michael This is my first time, and i would like some advice on buying a new reso,i already have a Regal tricone and a Resound Dobro, ideally i would like a National style o but they are a little out of my price range,i have seen the new Ozark with slotted headstock and aged Brass body it looks well made and authentic looking but i haven't played one.so i dint know how they compare to a national ,any advice would be helpful, or would it be better to save my money and by a national,or maybe get a custom reso made, any help would be greatly appreciated. Pete

Hi Pete,
Welcome to our forum!
Your question is always a difficult one to answer because it is governed by budget. There is no doubt that National Reso-Phonics and other 'top of the price range brands' are the best new resophonic guitars available, but they are expensive!
The Ozark you mentioned is a very good guitar - I have only played one, which was a few weeks ago at the Reso Centre, and I was very impressed. It really did have some character and a vintage tone. So I do give the 'thumbs up' to that instrument - it is a great guitar for the price.
I guess a good mid-range instrument is the Amistar, they make very god guitars for the price and sit between the Ozarks & National Reso-Phonics.
If you can afford to jump up to the National Reso-Phonic Style O, you should then look into the top-end hand built instruments. Fine Resophonic Guitars in Paris are in my opinion the best resophonic guitars currently being built anywhere in the world. Eric Clapton has bought three of them, so I guess that says something about them.
Keep in touch and chat to other forum members - this forum is not just about my opinions, it is a place for the whole community to talk and share advice and knowledge. Everyone on this forum is treated with respect and nobody cares if you own a 1928 prototype National Tricone, or a 2006 Korean built budget instrument. The point is that we all share a similar interest, both musically and in our choice of guitars.
Shine On, Michael.
