So, I've stepped out of my comfort zone, I've left the fur-lined rut and performed publicly. Fantastic, you would think... I'm up & running...
Well, no... I've lost my way... got no inspiration... the creative well has run dry. I'd like to write my own song, but creatively, there's nothing happening. Jeez, I only wanna write a blues, it's not like I'm trying to write an opera - I can repeat most of the lines!
Has anyone else found that once you get over the initial buzz of performing for the first time, you hit a lull?
Perhaps this has more to do with the fact that I'm in 2 weeks time?
Regards, Dom

Hey Dom,
Just keep doing it......playing, practicing, learning, performing and writing. You have to go through all this s**t, it is part of the process. Turning 40 is nothing.....I just hit 50....now that is serious in any language!
Keep doing it Dom, don't give in!
Shine On, Michael.

Like the man say, just keep on keepin' on. You get philosophical after a while. What I found difficult to deal with was having what I felt was a bad gig and thinking, "I'm supposed to be doing this because I enjoy it, that was awful, why do I bother?". Then you play again, and it's fine, you get the buzz again, the cycle goes on and you ride it out or stop altogether. I find it tough to write songs, and only occasionally does the muse strike, so I don't worry on that score, writing's not my thing really. But as regards progress as performer or writer, it's 10% inspiration, 90% perspiration...tho' your mileage may vary as they say.

I hit the same thing - then I realised that I was rejecting everything halfway thru because it "wasn't good enough". Don't be too hard on yourself - evry song doesn't have to be a masterpiece! Write a few & play them over - keep the bits you like, change the bits that don't work - but keep it fun! Good luck!
