A while ago I think I contributed to a thread about getting the heaviest Newtone strings and my difficulty in getting the 16 - 59s in Nickel, as personally I prefer them to Phosphor Bronze.
Well, I decided to just re-try using the PBs and got myself a set of the 16s, and put them on my MM Blues. Well, to be honest my opinion hadnt changed, I didnt like them nearly as much, but as they often say, "You live and learn". I know some players prefer bronze, and some of us prefer nickel, but thats what makes us a broad church doesnt it?
So I decided to keep them on for a while, rather than just take them off and waste them, thinking that in a few weeks I would be either able to source some Nickel 16s, or that the PBs would lose their tone such that I would go back to using some of the MM strings that I already have a set of 15s of.
I have to say I didnt anticipate any of them breaking, as I have never had a Newtone string break on me yet.
Then I was stringing up another guitar with what I thought were Electric Slide Classic 13s. All was going well till I put on the G string which to my horror was a wound one. Looked at the packet, and there I am putting on a set of Electric Slide 15s! Not what I had intended. So off came those, and the right 13 set went on.
So now I had a half used set of 15s Electric Slide Classics. Nothing to lose, so I took those and replaced the wound strings of the PB set on the MM Blues, leaving the two heavier top ones.
Guess what? To my ears the guitar is back to its old self. The Electric Slide strings work really well on the MM guitar, lovely bright nickel tone, slightly brighter than the acoustic ones to me as well.
So if you are unable to get a set of the Newtone National Nickel 15s, try a set of Electric Slide Classics instead. You may be pleasantly suprised.
