Hi Michael,
I will be over in the UK next week but having checked your tour dates, I had given up hope of catching you live on this occasion. However, I have just learned that I will be in Liverpool on 15 and 16 Feb and checking your tour dates again, I see that you are at Alexander's Jazz Theatre in Chester on 16 Feb. As this is only half an hour from Liverpool, I may be able to slip away to see you. I suspect my biggest problem will be getting back to Liverpool after the gig, as I have no idea what time the last train leaves from Chester to Liverpool. Anybody out there got any ideas?
All the best,
Joe (aka Mairena Red)

Hi Joe,
It would be great to see you in Chester on Thursday. If you do make it, please come and say hello. I am afraid I will be heading south after the show, so we can't offer you a lift, but you never know....maybe someone in the audience will be driving into Liverpool and could offer you a lift.
Shine On, Michael.

Hi Michael Great to meet you last week in Chester, the gig was sublime. A great mix of the old (Muddy, Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell) and the new (Second Mind and Lucky Charms) and a great mix of instruments. I particularly enjoyed the two "Hawaiian" numbers you played on the lap steel and the Havana 12 string sounds awesome! It was also nice to hear some of your earlier work, particularly "Diving Duck". The venue was really nice and I'm sure that wooden floor helped the acoustics. It was also great to chat with you after the show and to share some of your secrets on tunings and technique. I will definitely have to come over to one of your teach-ins later in the year. In the meantime, if you get to play over here, let me know. I'll be on the first plane/train/bus/donkey! All the best Joe (aka Mairena Red) PS I attach a photo my brother took at the gig. Hope it comes out OK. PPS Now you know why I'm called Mairena Red ;D [/img]

Hi Joe,
Likewise, It was great to meet you too. Thank you for the kind words. It is an interesting and unusual approach to playing acoustic blues and roots music, but it seems to work! Especially with a nice hard-wood floor to add ambience.
You should try and come along to one of the European Blues Association events, they really are both fun and educational.
Your photo attachment didn't work.....email it to me at info@ my domain name and I will post it on this thread for you.
Keep in touch & if I do get down to Spain to play (which I am sure we will) I will certainly let you know.
My very best wishes, Shine On, Michael.

Hi Michael, Thanks for your reply, not sure what happened to the photo as I followed the instructions in your exchange with Barry on a recent thread. Must be Gremlins in my system I have sent you the photo by e-mail as you suggest. All the best, Joe

Hi Michael,
Just thought I'd revive this thread to mention that after seeing you in Chester I bought an Intelli IMT-500 clip-on tuner from Ron at the LRC. It's a fantastic little tool and several people have asked me to get them one. I also bought a couple of King slides during the same visit, one in steel and the other in phosphor bronze. They both sound great, though I can't decide which one I prefer. The phosphor bronze one sounds a little sweeter and is perhaps better suited to my Regal RD45. Ron told me that they were going to stop making them so I'll have to be extra careful not to lose it.
All the best,
Joe (aka Mairena Red)

Hi Joe,
Good to hear from you. Not only are the King Slides not being made anymore, but it seems that 'Intelli' are in trouble and their tuners are getting to be as rare as....hens teeth/rocking horse manure....etc!
Keep in touch, Shine On, Michael.
