If you really must turn it into an electric guitar rather than use a mic, Fishman Rare Earth are the best of a bad lot at least to my ears (still sounds better than a piezo though). I have one and have used it twice in 5 years and still don't know why I bothered. If th.

I have a Fishman permanently mounted in the soundhole of my Simon & Patrick dreadnought. I too love the tone of it, and prefer the sound of a mag pickup on an acoustic to a piezo.
In my old gigging days, my acoustic had a strat pickup wired across the soundhole, it was the best way of amplifying an acoustic in a band where the drummer used a double bass drum kit!!!

Al
I have the basic Headway p/u's in my Fyldes. They are active. They sound very good through any amp and do not affect the acoustic sound. Blueshome
Not everyone, me for one, can play with a mic. I get a frozen shoulder and have to move around a bit between verses. If I am amplified I use a pickup...but good ones.

I use the Bill Lawrence clip-in soundhole pickups, but I don't shoot for a pure acoustic sound, and use a Sessionette guitar am. I go for that edgier type of sound that Lightnin' Hopkins had...and he used a soundhole pickup, usually a DeArmond.

Hi, Fishman rare earth are good (I prefer the sound of the single coil but they can be noisy) LR Baggs M1 is very nice & also picks up the vibration of the top. These are the two I have tried that I have been most impressed with.My main gigging guitar has a K&K pure western pick up inside the body& a Fishman single coil across the the sound hole.I have heard very good reports of the sunrise pick up (if its good enough for Richard Thompson!)but they are expensive hard to get& quite bulky.
