Just come across these things, they seem like a simple, but effective digital recorder, without all the whistles and bells that some of the others have. Looks like a good device for simple acoustic recordings with the odd overdub or two.
I'm seriously tempted. Does anyone on here have any experience of them?

It is a very highly rated recorder for the price. It is basically a digital version of what we were discussing a few weeks ago, the Tascam/Teac Portastudio. It is amazing - see the review in this month's ACOUSTIC magazine. For the price NOTHING can touch it YET.
At double the price 350'ish - the new Zoom H4N is a stunning digital multitrack recorder and it too is UNBEATABLE at present.
Shine On Michael.

Hi,
I got one of these about a week ago. Very impressive. Simple to use (5 mins with the "quick start" bit of the manual go me going) and very simple to record 4 tracks and mix them.
Only drawbacks I can see so far are that it doesn't come with a power suply (batterys only so that would cost you extra) and you need to supply tour own set of headphones.
Also you may want to use your own microphone(s) to get the best sound, rather than the in-built ones. They are fine but it would be difficult to get a sweet spot in order to get a really good recording, I think.
I haven't got near to getting the best out of it yet, but so far it really does seem like good value for money.
Hope that helps,
M.

I have posted this enquiry on a few forums both here and over the pond.
Its funny that over here in the UK both the reviews and the forum comments have been largely positive, yet in the US, they dont seem to have much good to say about it. Guitarist magazine here have also given it a good review, and appreciated its prime use as a musical sketchpad rather than a minature recording studio!!
Most of these negative comments complain about the lack of effects, and the lack of phantom power for mics. Forgetting the fact that it is supposed to be a simple to use, portable recorder.
I had a recorder a few yearsago, that had effects, drums, modelling, etc. It just was too complicated, and in all the time I had it, I think I hardly recorded a thing. I eventually sold it on
And yes, Michael its exactly what was raised on this forum. maybe this is the machine that will put the spontaneous fun back into home recording. And recording anywhere too.
Maybe Tascam have made this one more for us on this side of the pond!!!

Hi,
Don't have the Tascam, but I got a Boss Micro BR (think it was about 160 euro). Its a really good little device. Only problem is that the interface is all menu's. It probably does way too much for what I need. But once you figure out what you are interested in and get the menu options down its fine.
Cheers
Mel
