Hey,
I just bought a Regal RD 45. Read some positive things about it. But in the store the guy turned on to a Beard. A Korean made bottom of the line.
The Regal was $300, the Beard maybe 6-7. There was hoge difference in sound but i felt I couldn't justify the price difference for how often I play it.
I'm a pro who does a lot of studio and live, but don't play dobro much.
So the BIG question. Should I try to do an upgrade on my Regal-cone...or trade into the Beard.
I need quick response if possible, cause I can just upgreade in a few days and get my original $ for the Reagal. Thanks!!!

The RD45 is good but the Beard is definitely a better guitar.
In my opinion it comes down to how much money you want to spend. An upgrade on the Regal will cost you around $120 for parts (cone, spider & new bridge pieces - you can probably use the same nut but you might need to recut the slots as they don't always do that great a job). It will still come out cheaper than the Beard and it will give you a very acceptable sound. Dobro tone comes down to personal taste but I think the Beard would still sound a little better, although the difference wouldn't be anything like as much as now.

I agree with Pete, get the Beard! .....or....spend a little more and get Pete to make you one.
Shine On Michael.
