Yep, just heard this.
Very sad, and a great loss.

That is very sad news. John Martyn was a great artist. I have always loved his music. He was awarded the OBE in the 2009 New Year Honours. He had been sick for a long time.
Shine On Michael.

May he rest in peace. I'll play Solid Air tonight as my thoughts go to his family and friends.
Edit: According to wikipedia John died of pneumonia.

I saw him a few years ago with Danny Thompson, took my son, a great evening. Bought my son Solid Air as a present which he appreciated. Solid Air was played too, at the beginning of the funeral service for a work colleague last year.
My heart is heavy,

John Martyn RIP indeed...
That's a really lovely clip of him performing with Kathy Mathea et al...going back to look at it again right now!
I have great memories of playing one of his songs 'John The Baptist' in a band that I was in a couple of years ago...it was always one of my favourites in the set.
He's left a great musical legacy.

I'll ditto that - fond memories of early O.G.W.T programme's with John Martyn, his echoplex and his battered acoustic with the pick-up held in place by gaffa tape - great memories R.I.P. John, Ian.

Although I was aware of John Martyn in the '70s, I didn't pick up on him until I purchased "Not a Little Girl Anymore" by Linda Lewis. I bought that album purely for the few seconds of slide by Lowell George on "May You Never" which she covered quite nicely. That set me off with John Martyn.
I feel as though I have reached a turning point with the demise of John, graphic realisation of the passing years I guess! RIP John and thanks indeed.
