That was great and happy new year to all as well.
I watched it twice. And it dawned on me that there are no rules as far as slide/blues/etc playing
He was playing with a pick, not finger/thumbpicks or bare fingers
He was using a standard acoustic with a humbucker in the soundhole and getting a great tone. Not a resonator or a fancy pickup system to be seen anywhere
Im off to play my MM Blues with a plectrum for a bit......!

Hi Wolvoboy,
Happy New Year! Roy Rogers is a lovely player. I did a concert/workshop with him in Dublin in 97 or 98. It was a interesting mix of styles. Not only does Roy use a flatpick and his fingers, but his Martin guitar is strung with light gauge silk & steel strings. He mostly plays in open D tuning and capos way up the neck to get the keys of G and A. The Martin is always plugged into a Mesa Boogie guitar amp, and I think he uses a DeArmond soundhole pickup.
Check out THE HOT SPOT (Miles Davis, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker & Roy Rogers). Also most John Lee Hooker performances & recordings through the 1980s including The Healer & Mr Lucky.
