Euro Blues Promotions is running a Blues Weekend at the Atrix, Bromsgrove, on Friday 6th March to Sunday 8th March 2009.
HERE IS THE PRESS RELEASE:
Michael Roach / Eddie Martin / Homesick Mac
Euroblues Promotions Limited and The Artrix, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire is proud to present an ‘Acoustic Blues Weekend’ of workshops, jams and performance.
The programme will offer classes starting Friday from 1pm to 5pm and an evening jam session from 8pm to midnight for ‘participants only’. On Saturday, classes will run from 10am to 5pm followed by a public staff concert at 8pm. On Sunday, classes will run from 10am to 4pm. The classes will cater for all levels and we recommend that you bring along a portable tape player so that you could record your classes. The tutors for the ‘Acoustic Blues Weekend’ are Eddie Martin (harmonica), Homesick Mac (bottleneck slide guitar) and Michael Roach (country blues guitar).
Eddie Martin grew up in London in the 1960's and started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 16. He became a keen student of country blues music with an interest in artists such as Dr Ross and Joe Hill Louis. His commitment has led to him becoming the outstanding one-man blues band in the UK today. For over 12 years he has run courses, workshops, and private tuition for Acoustic and Electric Blues Guitarists at Intermediate and Advanced levels and for Blues Harmonica players at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels, and for those interested in the One-Man-Blues-Band Tradition. He has published a Guide to Blues Harmonica, Stage 1 (for beginners) and Stage 2 (intermediate). Eddie’s class will cover all aspects of playing blues harmonica.
Homesick Mac was born in Subotica, Yugoslavia. He has been playing the guitar since the age of 15. His love for blues began when he heard the music of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee and began to perform career in 1981. From 1983 to 1991, Mac formed 'The Blues Trio', an acoustic group that released 5 recordings. In 1992, he moved to Sweden and started playing in clubs throughout Scandinavia, thus building a solid reputation for his great guitar skills. For four years, Mac has taught slide guitar at the highly popular Blues Week programmes held in the UK. His enthusiasm and energy is unrivalled. For the weekend, Mac will conduct a 'master class' on bottleneck styles.
Michael Roach from Washington, D.C., is the founder of the European Blues Association and the Director of the annual Blues Week and Weekend programmes. He has had years of experience organising concerts, directing festivals and conducting workshops. With four CD albums to his credit, Michael is firmly established in traditional music circles. He will teach beginning to advanced chord progressions, rhythm, and playing alternating bass patterns in country blues guitar techniques.
The registration fee is £120 (£110 conc) for the weekend. A single day rate for Saturday only is £70 (£65 conc) and includes evening concert followed by the late night jam. The rate for Sunday is £55 (£50 conc). Advance booking is required and all fees are payable to The Artrix Box Office at (01527) 577 330.
Regarding accommodation, we are staying at the Premier Inn Hotel (Bromsgrove, Central). It is a one-minute walk from the arts centre. At the moment, they have a room rate of £48 per night. Their telephone number is 08702 428 000. You can share the cost with a friend if you book a twin. Also, they have sleep sofas in their family rooms. Furthermore, the Artrix has a list of hotels and other accommodation, including local B&Bs available from the Box Office.
