I've just got my copy of Tom Doughty's new CD "Have a Taste of This!" and it's excellent! Tom won't need much introduction to people on this forum, but if you haven't heard him yet I suggest you check him out here: www.tomdoughty.com/products.html Tom's gone for an intimate sound - The lack of reverb allows his lap steel playing to sing through. He sings and plays a mix of mostly self written blues, jazz, folk, with Indian Raga influences learnt after studying in Calcutta with Debashish Bhattacharya and attending the workshop given by Debashish and Michael Messer. Highlights for me are the haunting song "Nobody's fault", his interpretation of the standard "One For my Baby", and the instrumental "Jalesar Ghanta" where Debashish's influence can clearly be heard. After a road traffic accident left him disabled, Tom was forced to find new ways of making music. He discovered lap style playing which his condition allowed him to play with a unique and beautiful style. After attending a workshop given by Woody Mann, he was introduced to Bob Brozman. Both Woody and Brozman have both become fans. Bill
